After pursing my lips, sighing softly, I looked up from the beer bottle that was settled on the countertop of the island in the kitchen.
"Oh.. I didn't think you where awake.." the woman spoke from the barely lit hallway, her voice soft so no to disturb anyone who was sleeping just down the hall from the open kitchen area.
I smiled a bit and shrugged slightly, "Had too much on my mind. Couldn't." I kept it simple, no reason to tell her why I couldn't sleep.

After a few moments of quiet talking, and her prodding me as pertaining as to why I was still awake, I finally cracked - sighing loudly.
"Yaknow.. I hear what they say behind my back.." I said, swirling my beer around in the bottle as I spoke.
"Who?" She asked, standing beside of me with her arms crossed. she had so much concern that filled her voice; it almost shocked me.
"Scott, Jean.. Others.."
"What are they saying?.." she asked, her head tilted to the side slightly like it always did when she was curious. It was actually rather charming, even though she denied it.
"That I'm a monster.." I said through my teeth, my voice low and defencive. I wouldn't have told her, normally, but I knew she would have kept pressing until I finally told her.
"Logan," she put her hands on my shoulder as I tried to avoid her eyes, her voice soft; sweet. "Your no monster..."
All this time, I thought she agreed with them. That she laughed along with them when I had my back turned.
All this time.. I thought she couldn't stand me..

"Sure.. Your a little rough around the edges, but you have every right to be.." the brunette spoke again before removing her hand from my shoulder, a gentle smile on her face now. When I looked at her, I actually had to blink a few times..
When had her eyes gotten so deeply brown? Why hadn't I noticed the glow that she had about her?..
".. Yeah. I uh- .." I paused and raised the beer bottle to my lips, taking a drink of the small amount of liquor that was still inside. "I suppose your right.."
She nodded once and smiled a bit more, since she'd moved to get a cold soda from the refrigerator, "See? .. Doesn't hurt to admit someone else is right every once in awhile, Logan." she joked as she started to walk out of the kitchen.
For some reason or another, I couldn't keep my mind off her.. I didn't want her to go and my heart had started to pound when she put her hand on my shoulder. I felt.. strange, but in the best way possible. "Hey- .. " I called after her, sitting more upright now as apposed to my normal hunched over position.
She, standing on the first step of the stairs that lead to the second floor, paused and looked at me. The moonlight coming in from the bay window that was right at the top of the staircase, flowed down the stairs and casted her shadow onto the floor and made her skin glow - as if she where an angel. "Yes?" she asked in the same soft tone she'd used before.
".. G'night." I said with a smile, an actual smile.. Not one of those forced, painful, things that everyone seemed to know how to fake so well.
I could see her smile and tilt her head a bit, "Goodnight, Logan." she said before dissapearing up the stairs and for the first time, in a long time.. I felt my heart flutter.
